Every horse deserves a good start
When I was 14 and became hooked on horses, I wanted to try my hand at breaking in a horse. But many of the methods I saw people using left much to be desired. Sometimes I would watch someone working with a horse and decide to do the exact opposite—often with good results. Even so, I knew I needed a mentor.
A legacy of gentle horsemanship
Many years ago, my uncle worked on a property in Dalmorton for an old horseman who had spent many years breaking horses. My uncle learned everything he could from him and, in time, passed that knowledge on to me. The method is gentle and kind, allowing the horse to develop the trust needed to form a true partnership with their human.
Trust over desensitisation
These days, people often speak of “desensitisation,” but the real key is trust. It’s impossible to desensitise a horse for every situation they may encounter. However, if a horse truly trusts their human, they understand that they will not be placed in harm’s way. That is why we spend so much time building trust from the very beginning.
